ST JOHN'S CHURCH PRESERVATION GROUP |
YOUNG SUPPORTERS
"Our Future"
St John's Church Preservation Group is extremely keen to welcome Young Supporters from the ages of 6-17 years.
Young people bring fresh ideas and new life into an organisation and will ensure that St John's Church continues successfully into the longer term
At age 18 Young Supporters become adult members with voting rights but can stay involved with the Young Supporters as helpers.
Our Young Supporters section is not yet formed although we have at least 60 young people in membership.
We are seeking the right volunteers to move this area of our work forward. The Young Supporters could either be set up by an adult or by Young Supporters themselves.
Young Supporters will have the opportunity to shadow the adults in Preservation Group work, and will be encouraged to develop their own ideas including fundraising ideas. |
Young Supporters are the FUTURE of the Preservation Group and we always urge grown ups to encourage their children and grandchildren to get involved. We have some first links started with local schools. This will be one of the most important areas of our work as time goes on.

Our YOUNGEST MEMBER SO FAR WAS 6 years old when he joined - he says his "Nan and Grandad are buried in the churchyard and he wants to be able to go into the church for a cup of tea".
We have experienced some wonderful goodwill from local young people towards St John's Church.
Could this be YOUR role in helping us to Save St John's?
The whole St John's Church Preservation Group movement was started off by Dwayne Morgan aged 10
years who put the first petition sheets in Tiwana store in High View
Street back in May 2007.
Grown ups have had to pick up the idea and run with it but the
move to save the church was started by a YOUNG SUPPORTER.

Dwayne Morgan aged 10 years handing the 750 name petition to Councillor Shaukat Ali in June 2007. The petition formed the basis of the local objection to redundancy sent to the Church Commissioners on our behalf by Councillor Ali. Another 118 names were handed in by local people, too late for the deadline date which was 19th June 2007.
One of our most important fundraising ideas 'Collecting loose change' was brought to us by Young Supporters Demi and Elise Russell aged 11 and 12 years
The loose change collection idea is to become one of our major fundraisers as the idea is developed over the next year
