HELP US WITH FUNDING, BE PART OF THE RESTORATION OF ST JOHN'S CHURCH, KATES HILL
Total Project Cost for full restoration over 10-30 years around £941,000 according to the 2008 survey Although we believe these costs can be reduced considerably by using local contractors and competitive tendering.
Cost to re-open the building and get it in use again - possibly NIL - as it should never have been closed - see 2008 survey below - However we estimate rewiring, arranging heating, redecoration, installation of amenities such as toilets and kitchen at around £150,000 none of which needs to be spent immediately. We could just open the doors and go in! Subject to insurance and safeguards of course.
The higher costs come from restoration work - restoring the building to it's former glory - but much of the work is 'desirable' not 'essential'. The building is very sound and strong and much of the work needed is cosmetic.
| It's a lot about this now.........

The St John's Church Building is now Grade II listed. We have a Steering Group set up with the Archdeacon of Dudley.
|
When the church was closed in 2002 it was written off as unsafe and of no architectural or historic interest. It is now shown through subsequent surveys to be safe and repairable and through the listing process to be of national historic and architectural interest.
